Welcome to the Book Fort
When we were kids, there was nothing my brother and I loved more than to build a blanket fort.
You remember blanket forts: piled high with pillows and draped over chairs, a mystical yet obvious hiding place in the middle of a living room. My brother and I would spend a whole morning constructing our fort, filling it with toys and books, and hours more playing and reading inside of it (no grown-ups allowed). Blanket forts weren't just exciting playgrounds for me, though - they were a symbol of safety; a barrier between me and the chaos of the outside world. Even after my brother had long abandoned our fort for newer entertainment, I would stay - reading, playing, and dreaming.
Fast forward to the already endlessly chaotic world of 2024, and I find myself in need of that same safety, that same comfort and healing, dear Reader. Unfortunately, tall enough chairs are in short supply in my small abode, so I have decided I will build my fort out of what brought me joy within those blanket walls: books. My hope is to construct a new safe haven - moment by moment, book by book, world by world. Along the way, myself and some friends will offer our thoughts on the books we find, and tell you whether they make the cut for our safe havens, for our healing Book Fort.
And I hope you'll join us on this journey as well.
